Good morning all.

Emma at A Year with my Camera set the above challenge at the beginning of this month. I love the colours of Autumn and my camera generally goes into autodrive at this time of year.

Consolidating

Good morning all.

Home work for this week was to consolidate all which we had learned to date and practise our new found skills. These prompts appear in the book "A Year with my Camera" part one, which I have bought my son for Christmas!

Promises, Promises!

Good morning all.

A Year with my Camera promised to get me off auto in six weeks...a bold claim to someone who had no clue about the workings of a camera! At three-four weeks in I still didn't think it was possible...but here I am at six weeks and my camera has been on manual most of the week!!

I even have some photos to show for it too:)

Chasing the Aurora

Good morning all.

I had my first taste of Aurora chasing last night with eldest...the skies were reasonably clear so off we set about 10.30pm to the local lighthouse. It was quite a mild night though quite breezy on the headland...note to self - buy a woolly hat!

Capturing the Northern Lights

Good morning all.

"Capturing the Northern Lights" was the theme of the class eldest and I attended on Monday evening. There were only three of us in the class so there was plenty of opportunity to ask silly questions and iron out anything you weren't too sure about.

The Eilean Donan Castle

Good morning all.

Hubby and I visited the Eilean Donan Castle recently as we headed north to join the North coast 500...more details of the trip can be found here and here.

It had been a lifelong dream of mine to see the castle first hand having grown up with a picture of it hanging on the wall at home....it was definitely worth waiting for!

Good morning all.

Loving this idea of taking 12 pictures in one day....the first Saturday of the month. This month was my first time taking part. I choose to take a leisurely walk around the garden with my camera and my iPhone to get these pictures.

North Coast 500 - Part One

Good morning all.

Having finally resurrected my computer from the dead, I can now document our recent road trip round the North Coast 500 in Scotland. I took both my camera (Fujifilm XF1) and iPhone 6s with me to do the photography. Sadly the camera developed a lens error on day five (third time in four years grr) and although it still worked I mainly used my phone from day six onwards.

Hubby and I have been planning a trip to John O Groats for some time now having been to Lands End about 3 years ago. After becoming aware of the North Coast 500 route we decided to combine the two and add in his birthday treat of a night in the tree house at Ackergill Tower along the way. Although we only spent one night at each destination we deliberately kept each days driving mileages low so we had plenty of time to enjoy the sights along the route. This is our story:

It was a fun way to get to know the other participants on the course and explore aspects of photography which may have felt out of your comfort zone. I'm a keen amateur photographer who likes to travel or take pictures in the garden whilst at home. I have just started an online course "A Year with my Camera" which I hope will improve my skills and enable me to get off auto...watch this space!
