Good morning all.

Metering was the subject of last weeks email from Emma at A Year with my Camera. I took one look at the title and thought urrrgggh!!

.....then I read the email and realised I was one step ahead of the game as I'd inadvertently turned the histogram and exposure compensation bar on a few days earlier when fiddling with the settings (as you do!). Not knowing how I'd managed to switch them on I just left them there. By the end of the email I understood what they were for and how to use them...and I hadn't got out of bed yet!!
Today is going to be a good day (I thought)!!

I tackled the homework quickly once I was up, just to test out the theory and no problems on either Aperture or Shutter Priority mode...I then went to manual! Oh dear...I should have just gone back to bed at this point...!
After a trip out with hubby I came back to it...both the histogram and the exposure compensation bar were visible but the bar wasn't live...much teeth gnashing, hair pulling, camera setting and resetting, manual reading and googling later (with the odd naughty word in between) I suddenly realised it wasn't meant to work....that's a couple of hours of my life I wont get back...but it's a lesson I won't forget in a hurry either!

Excuse the shadows...I really must find somewhere to set up my light box!

I'm going to a photography class locally tonight with eldest, to find out when and how to capture the Northern Lights. Hopefully the skies will be clear enough to go out afterwards and put our new skills into practice.

#1day12pics October

Good morning all.

Loving this idea of taking 12 pictures in one day....the first Saturday of the month. This month was my first time taking part. I choose to take a leisurely walk around the garden with my camera and my iPhone to get these pictures.

Looking forward to November!

North Coast 500 - Part One

Good morning all.

Having finally resurrected my computer from the dead, I can now document our recent road trip round the North Coast 500 in Scotland. I took both my camera (Fujifilm XF1) and iPhone 6s with me to do the photography. Sadly the camera developed a lens error on day five (third time in four years grr) and although it still worked I mainly used my phone from day six onwards.

Hubby and I have been planning a trip to John O Groats for some time now having been to Lands End about 3 years ago. After becoming aware of the North Coast 500 route we decided to combine the two and add in his birthday treat of a night in the tree house at Ackergill Tower along the way. Although we only spent one night at each destination we deliberately kept each days driving mileages low so we had plenty of time to enjoy the sights along the route. This is our story:

#Make 30 Photos

Good morning all.

#Make 30 Photos was set as a precursor to "A Year with my Camera". It was a fun way to get to know the other participants on the course and explore aspects of photography which may have felt out of your comfort zone. The prompts also made you think out of the box...there were no right or wrong interpretations. These are my 30:

1. fill the frame with colour

Hello and Welcome

Hello to all who find me here...I hope you'll enjoy my posts.

I'm a keen amateur photographer who likes to travel or take pictures in the garden whilst at home. I have just started an online course "A Year with my Camera" which I hope will improve my skills and enable me to get off this space!

Coming soon....The North Coast 500, a recent roadtrip around Scotland.
